What good is a swimming pool without water? What is life without oxygen? This is what Lynn Bernardo thinks about a world without music. At an early age, she started being exposed to dance, and she certainly danced her early years through, choreographing group dances in school competitions and winning all of them. At the same time she was a member of their school choir. On reaching college Lynn's voice matured enough for her to have impressed a vocal coach who convinced her to sing professionally. She auditioned and became a member of The New Minstrels Fifth Generation, a popular band in the Philippines. She had to give up her career though, after having been given a choice between singing and studies. In 1993 she moved to Dubai, United Arab Emirates and worked at the Emirates Golf Club. There she met Anton R. Tajanlangit, manager and director of The Aquatones, a band known all over the Emirates. After auditioning she became one of the more sought-after singers of the band for several years, which had countless performances throughout the country. This included gigs in five-star hotels, Sheikh's palaces, sea cruises, and even the world-famous 7-star Burj Al Arab. Her captivating voice and vivacious energy on stage made her one of the most requested singers in international functions and parties all over the Emirates. Lynn moved to the U.S. on February 8, 2001, but singing became so much a part of her that she still finds ways and means to get herself heard. She still considers herself very much a part of The Aquatones, and is doing what she can to bring the group to the U.S. As she always says, “Never let anyone take away your dreams in life. Ever since I was hooked to singing, it became a part of my life—part of my system, rather—and I know that this is what I have been longing for all my life! You just have to believe in yourself and that perseverance and determination will take you far away to places you never imagined.” Her major influences are Kelly Clarkson, Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, Shania Twain and Jennifer Lopez. “I just love the versatility of their voices, especially Kelly’s. At a very young age, she realized her dreams by belting out performances far beyond what people expected. Celine & Barbra have been my favorites ever since because of their soulful and powerful voices and I love the energy and intensity of Shania Twain’s performances on stage with her band! JLo’s beauty and charisma and her songs are all so pure and stylish. I know somehow that their music and style had a great influence in the way I perform and project on stage, that’s why I love them all!” She misses singing so much with her band, that’s why she’s in regular contact with Anton, the bandleader and her mentor, trying to establish contacts so her band can be discovered and be well known in the USA.
